How do I create my own solution packs?

Modified on Tue, 25 Nov at 2:29 PM

Solution packs are an easy way to group solutions that you can use when you need them most. You can pin a pack to any relevant events and find it in the solutions library whenever you want.

You’ll already find a range of ready-made packs in the library. These contain practical, actionable solutions for common problems, giving you a good starting point to try things out and see what works for you.

You can also create your own solution packs. These can be unique to you, with your own custom solutions as well as ready-made ones.

How do I create a solution pack?

From the solutions library:

  1. Select the ‘Solutions’ tab with the lightbulb icon in the bottom navigation. This opens the solution library.
  2. For iOS phones: In the top right, select the ‘+’ icon
  3. For Android phones: In the bottom right, select the ‘+’ button
  4. Choose whether you’d like to create a new individual solution or a pack.

For packs:

  1. Give your pack a short name that makes sense to you and that you’ll recognise.
  2. Choose a colour for your pack using the ‘Pick colour’ option.
  3. When you’re ready, select ‘Create’ to save your new pack.

For individual solutions:

  1. Give your solution a short title that makes sense to you and that you’ll recognise.
  2. You can optionally add more detail using the description.
  3. You can add a link such as an email, phone number, website, or media link (like a video or playlist).

From an event:

  1. Open the event in your calendar.
  2. Use the ‘Add’ button next to the ‘Solution packs’ heading.
  3. Give your pack a short name that makes sense to you and that you’ll recognise.
  4. Select the ‘Create new solution pack’ button.
  5. Choose a colour for your pack using the ‘Pick colour’ option.
  6. When you’re ready, select ‘Create’ to save your new pack.

How do I add solutions to my pack?

  1. Once your pack is created, you’ll see a purple button in the centre of the screen that says ‘Add solution’. Select this to add a custom or existing solution. If your pack already contains solutions then please select the ‘+’ icon in the top right.
  2. Give your solution a name. As you type, a list of suggested existing solutions will appear. You can choose one of these or create your own.
  3. To add an existing solution, select it to view the details and then use the ‘Add’ button at the bottom of the page.
  4. To create a new solution, give it a clear title such as ‘Remember your glasses’. Then select ‘Create new solution’.

How do I add more detail to a new solution?

  • You can add a link such as an email, phone number, website, or media link (like a video or playlist).
  • You can also add a description. This is a good space to remind yourself why the solution is useful or important, such as “When you don’t have your glasses you get eye strain.”

After you’ve added these, the options will change to ‘Edit link’ and ‘Edit description’. Select these to update and save your changes.

When you’re happy, use the ‘Create’ button at the bottom of the screen to finish. Your solution won’t be saved until you do this.

If, later,  you want to make changes to one of your own solutions, just press and hold on it. A menu will appear with the option to ‘Edit solution’. This will reopen the screen you used to create it, so you can update the details and save your changes.

What happens after I’ve created my pack?

Your new solutions will appear in your pack straight away. You can repeat the process until you’ve added everything you need and add more later if you want. To add another solution select the more menu in the top right corner and then choose ‘Add solution’.

Once your pack is complete, it will be available in your solutions library and can be pinned to events and your homepage.

Some changes we’ve made

If you’ve had Brain in Hand since before November 2025 you will also see the option to add ‘problems’ to your events and you may have some ‘unplanned events’ set up.

Unplanned events and problems used to be the only way to create your own personal solutions, but we’re now moving away from both. Don’t worry if you already have unplanned events and problems set up – you’ll still be able to find and use them in the app. For more information see ‘What changes is Brain in Hand making to solutions and how can I prepare?’
