How can I prepare for my first coaching session?

Coaching is a valuable part of your BIH and we are excited to support you on your journey towards achieving your goals and overcoming any challenges you may face.

When joining your coaching session you will need to find somewhere quiet and free from distraction. You’ll need your smartphone or tablet, but you may find it easier to join the Teams session using a computer.

Here are some questions that can help you prepare and reflect on the things that matter most to you so that you can feel ready for your first session.

You are welcome to complete this questionnaire in advance of your first session and send it to your coach if you feel comfortable doing so. We do not recommend sharing your questionnaire via email if it contains any information you consider sensitive as your email may not be secure in transit.

If you would prefer, you can bring your completed questionnaire to your session instead, or simply discuss the questions directly with your coach during your first meeting. Your comfort and privacy are important - please choose the approach that feels safest and most appropriate for you.

When reflecting, you can add as much context as you’d like, but even one or two points per question is a good start for your coaching sessions.

If you’re not sure how to answer a question- don’t worry this is something your coach can support you with.

What are your strengths, interests, or skills?
(We want to focus on what makes you unique and empower you through what already works well for you!)

What challenges or barriers do you currently face that you'd like support with?
(think of as many as you like—no challenge is too big or small.)

What are some strategies or tools that have helped you overcome or manage a challenge in the past?
(You may want to think about the people in your life, physical objects or techniques you use. Even if they only worked a little, they can provide insight into what might be useful now.)

What would you like to achieve from coaching?
These could be goals you would like to achieve or changes you’d like to make in your life. For example you might want to feel more confident in yourself or navigating social interactions, you may want to reduce overwhelm or increase your self-advocacy skills, etc.)
